Finding
a Legitimate Home Based Business © Rosamunde Bott 2008 The
online home business industry has become
extremely popular. However,
many people
are nervous about starting an internet business because they have heard
that
there are many scams. In
fact, you will
find websites and blogs given over to searching out and criticizing
programs
that are seen to be fraudulent, and it can almost seem that there is no
such
thing as a legitimate home based business on the internet. Unfortunately, there are many perfectly honest and valid companies who are given bad press from time to time. This is often because people who have found the business has not worked for them make it the fault of the program and will often label a legitimate program as a “scam” because they feel they have somehow been short-changed. In fact, it is more
usually the case that the individual involved has not understood the
nature of
an online business, and bought into an erroneous belief that they will
make
money quickly for doing very little.
They have usually given up on their business within
a few weeks or
months, not realising that an online business needs work and time. Sadly, they will often
blame the company for
their failure and try to undermine it by spreading negative press. Of
course, this does not mean that there are no
scams out there. There
certainly are and
they need to be avoided. So,
how do you find out which companies are
legitimate, and which really are scams? Here
are my tips for finding a legitimate home
based business without tears! 1.
Take your time in choosing the right program.
Most of us can admit to being occasionally
taken in by a clever piece of advertising.
You get excited by what they are offering, you feel
that you MUST have
it, that your life will change once you have joined, and before you
know it you
have got out your credit card, clicked SUBMIT and are now several
dollars
lighter. The chances are that this is a legitimate company and
everything is
fine, but relying on luck is not a good idea.
Shop around and make sure that you know what you are
signing up
for. If there are
several companies you
like the look of, bookmark them and make up your mind later. 2.
Be wary of exaggerated claims. If
a company promises that you will be rich
very quickly without spending any money or doing any work, you would do
well to
stay away from it. When
you think about
it, making money like this is just not logical.
While it is possible to start an online business
with a very small
budget, you do need to treat it like a business, spend some money, work
on it
regularly and give it time before you start making a profit. 3.
Do some research. Doing a search on Google is
probably not going to give you a balanced view.
You will probably find the two opposite extremes:
either someone
advertising the program and therefore showing only the benefits, or you
will
find some negative feedback written by someone with a grudge, as I have
explained above. The
best way of researching any online business
opportunity is to join some online home business forums and ask members
of the
forum. Most forums
do not allow blatant
advertising in posts, and the majority of people in these forums are
very
willing to help. Many
of them are
experts in the online home business industry and will be knowledgeable
about
what companies are legitimate and which might be scams.
Particularly listen to people who have been
in the forum for a long time as they will be trusted members who have
contributed useful posts. Anyone
who
breaks forum rules by advertising or aggressive language will not last
very
long, so you can be sure that long-standing members who answer your
questions
will give you balanced advice. 4.
Choose programs through trusted sponsors.
Spending some time on a forum will allow you
to see who are the most helpful and trustworthy members. These are the kinds of
people that it would
be good to have as a sponsor. Check
out
their websites and see if they offer any programs that you would be
interested
in. Most people who
have some experience
in the industry will have several income streams and provide useful
information, reviews and advice on their websites. You will be off to a
good
start if you join an affiliate program through a person you trust
because you
will know you will be in good hands and get good advice and support. Following
these four steps will ensure that you
find a legitimate home based business that’s right for you
while avoiding any
scams, and get the right support that you will need to get started. After that, you need to
develop a good
relationship with your sponsor, learn all you can about marketing your
business
and take action every day to make your business successful. ____________________________________________________________________ Copyright
