Leave the Rat Race:
Your Financial Freedom Plan
© Rosamunde Bott 2008
It’s a term
we’ve heard so often, but what does “Rat
Race”
actually mean?
If
you do a quick search on Google, you’ll find the
following definitions:
“an
endless, self-defeating or pointless pursuit.”
“an exhausting routine that leaves no time for
relaxation”
“strenuous,
wearisome, and usually competitive
activity or rush”
The first definition fairly accurately describes many jobs, and all
definitions
could describe the feelings many workers have about their work: like
being on a
tread mill with very little gain or hope of future financial freedom.
In most jobs you will be paid a weekly or monthly salary which in most
cases is
dictated by the employer. In
return for
the hours you spend working for your employer, you are given money to
buy the
things you need and want. If you want to increase your income the
options
available to you are often very slim:
increase your hours, get promoted or find a better
job. In all
options, there is always a set rate of
pay; how much you can actually earn will always be limited.
Even if you do go for these options, they are not always as easy as
they
sound. Increasing
your hours leaves you
with less free time for yourself and your family; getting promoted is
not
always an option depending on your job or experience, and looking for a
better
job can be a soul-destroying experience.
All this can lead to disillusion, frustration and
eventual burnout.
Even
if you do get promoted, or get a raise, all that
happens is you have more work to do, less time and the rat race just
gets
tougher.
What’s the answer?
Before
answering that, I would say this:
every single person has the power and ability
to control their own life. If
you don’t
like the job you are in, if you hate the rat race, you can find an
alternative. You
have to remember that
your life really is your own. Take
charge and create a life that you want.
Instead
of the interminable cycle of trying to get up the ladder of employment,
why not break free from the rat race completely? Why
not use your available time to create
several income streams that are neither limited by an employer nor by
the
amount of time you have available?
Self
employment may not be for everyone.
If you love your job and enjoy the excitement
of trying to get ahead of the rest, there’s no reason for you
to change.
On the
other hand, there is a world of opportunity out there
for anyone who is prepared to take their life in their own hands and
build
their own path to financial freedom.
You
need to start thinking differently about the way you
earn money. The
only way to truly break
free of the rat race is to break out of the cycle of trading hours for
money
and start building a residual income instead.
Earn money even when you are not working.
How
do you do that?
There are many ways these days to create residual
income. Of course,
you need to do some work,
especially in the beginning, but by finding the right niche for you and
using
the internet to start a business, you can create an income which will
build and
build. Doesn’t
that sound better than
the same old pay check each month?
Start
by doing some research. Look
at the opportunities. You
could try affiliate marketing, write an
e-book and sell it, build a website from which you can sell stuff 24/7. The best way to get
trained is to find
someone who is already achieving this dream and see what they do.
Look
around. Find
successful people. Find
out what they are
doing. There are
many opportunities for
you to leave the rat race. You
just have
to break the cycle.

very successful people and learn from them, you can see what I have to
